A new pilot project is making me excited.
-
It is online group sessions for home schooling families.
-
It offers many unique benefits.
I AM EXCITED about a pilot project on which we are working,
ONLINE SESSIONS FOR HOME SCHOOLING FAMILIES.
For the past few months I have been in contact with some local home schooling families.
We have started a pilot project of weekly online sessions with home schooling youth.
The skills they can gain will change their lives.
UNIQUE ASPECTS:
Here are some aspects of these sessions that makes them unique.
Diversity:
-
Participants of different age groups;
-
Siblings from the same family can join; and,
-
Those from different backgrounds and cultures strengthen the group.
Locations:
-
Those in different locations can join a session.
-
Those in isolated communities can join.
-
Anyone with decent internet access can take part.
Accommodating:
-
Accommodates those with varying communication skill levels.
-
Participants can learn at their own pace.
SKILLS LEARNED:
During the sessions they will be able to practice and learn how to:
-
organize meetings;
-
use appropriate online meeting protocol;
-
practice and learn communication and leadership skills;
-
speak unrehearsed;
-
create and deliver presentations;
-
give constructive feedback;
-
think independently and voice their opinions;
-
collaborate with others;
-
interact in a group and team environment;
-
support and help each other; and,
-
build community.
These important skills can lead to future success.
PARENTS:
Home schooling is an admirable and challenging task for parents.
It requires an above average involvement in their child’s life.
These regular scheduled sessions can give parents a break whilst their child attends the session.
Parents do not have to drive or taxi their children to participate with these groups.
.
FUTURE PLANS:
These sessions could multiply and become available in many locations and time zones.
Multiple sessions:-As the demand grows many additional sessions will be required
Booking of attendance and roles: Participants will be able to book attendance and roles.
Training Adult Facilitators:
-
Train adults how to monitor the sessions.
-
Arrange volunteers to assist when the normal facilitator is unavailable.
-
Parents and grandparents can learn to coordinate these sessions.
