SELF-CONFIDENCE: – How to boost.


  • Either having self-confidence or lacking it has a major effect on one’s life.

  • There are many activities we can offer young people to assist them to gain self-confidence.


To have or to lack self-confidence changes a person’s life.

When working with groups of young people there are activities we can offer which assist them to gain self-confidence.

BOOSTING SELF-CONFIDENCE:

POSITIVE MIND-SET:

Help them to find the good in all situations and in other persons.

Help them learn to smile and laugh.

Activities to boost a positive mind-set:

-Evaluations – constructive feedback.

-Kudos-comment on what others did well in the session.

-Jokester role – shares jokes.

SELF-AWARENESS:

Encourage them to be proud of their strengths.

Note the impact they have on others.

Activities to boost self-awareness:

-Share a photo of the week.

-Answer impromptu questions.

-Give a presentation.

-Evaluations/feedback about the session..

-Kudos where they inform the group members what others have done well.

EMOTIONAL STABILITY:

Encourage them to be aware of their emotions.

Discover what makes them happy or not.

Activities to boost emotional stability:

-Kudos.

-Impromptu speaking.

FLEXIBILITY IN BEHAVIOUR:

Offer them the opportunities to break habits and patterns by being spontaneous.

Activities to boost flexibility in behaviour:

-Offer them the opportunity to take on various roles to learn new skills,

-Impromptu speaking session.

-Evaluations/feedbacks.

-Kudos to reinforce.

IMPROVE COMMUNICATION:

Speaking and listening to others.

-Group discussions

-Evaluations offering constructive feedback.

-Quizzer role – asking questions about session’s proceedings.

EAGERNESS TO DISCOVER:

Invite them to be inquisitive about how things work.

Encourage them to notice the natural world around them.

Ask them what they have found out about a situation and what they will do to keep discovering.

Activities to boost eagerness to discover:

-Meeting themes.

-Impromptu speaking.

-Presentations on topics.

DIRECTION AND VALUES:

Talk about future possibilities and encourage bold dreams.

Keep their expectations high about what is possible.

Acknowledge all the things they do well.

Celebrate successes as they work towards a target.

HEALTH AND ENERGY:

Discuss healthy eating and exercise habits.

Discuss the world beyond their own home or family.

Invite them to consider what they can contribute in their lives.
