THE WEEKLY JAZZ SESSIONS.

  • These Friday night meetings are the highlight of my week.

  • The youth involved also enjoy these sessions.

  • If you become involved, you too will feel ‘jazzed.’

Of all my weekly activities, the most enjoyable are the Friday night meetings that I attend. They are the highlight of my week.  After the meeting I feel relaxed and jazzed.

‘Jazzed’ is an unusual description. There are a few definitions of jazz. Other than music there are a couple of other definitions. As per the Free Dictionary you will find it can mean

-Animation, enthusiasm, or

-To give great pleasure to; excite. Such as The surprise party jazzed the guest of honor.

WHY THIS MEETING?

If I had a tough or busy week, after this meeting I feel elated and relaxed. It is a meeting that I always look forward to with anticipation. But why this meeting?

These are the weekly meeting of the youth group. I have been working with this group for over four and a half years now. The participants are boys and girls range in age from 8 to 16 years old. They are from a variety of backgrounds. At one time they brought a world map.  The attendees showed on the map where their families came from. There were twelve different countries listed.

It makes me smile to watch this diverse group work together. They share their ideas and stories. This makes me smile. At each meeting there is someone who steps up. They try a new skill or share a new concept or story with the others. After each meeting, I feel so blessed to witness how they are growing and enhancing their skills.

THE YOUTH ENJOY THESE SESSIONS:

The young participants also enjoy these sessions. They keep coming. Many of them wanted to continue meeting even during the holiday break. They did not want to stop attending.

Another example was one Friday when I arrived to open the doors to the meeting room. Two sisters were waiting with their parents. They informed me they had been to Africa visiting relatives. On the way back they had stopped in Paris. What surprised me was that they had not yet been home. They had come straight from the airport. Their suitcases were still in the car. That act says a great deal. They had been on a long flight from Paris. They missed their friends and wanted to come to the meeting before going home.

If you become involved with youth group coaching  I predict that you will find it to be the highlight of your week. You too will likely feel jazzed.
